In 1988 Nico began his professional career as Regional Financial Manager for the (then) Sanlam Properties Natal in Durban. Four years later he joined the Eskom and Denel Pension Fund Joint Venture where he headed up the newly constructed Pavilion Shopping Centre.

In 1993 he joined the property trading and development division at Investec Bank in Johannesburg and later moved to the property finance division.

He left Investec Bank to head up the practice management and new business division of Strauss Daly Attorneys in Durban at the end on 1995.

Following the restructuring of Old Mutual properties in late 1998, he moved to Old Mutual Properties Head Office in Cape Town as Project Executive responsible for the packaging of all new projects throughout South Africa.

He left Old Mutual Properties in 2000 to found and launch Exactafrica.
